Hmmm.....what have I been doing since my last post? I guess I'd have to say probably not a whole lot. I did go on a great cruise over the holidays. And, on a very nice boat trip from Florida to Hawks Caye and a visit to Key West; which I absolutely LOVE! But for the most part, all I seem to have done is to suffer for the longest time with what I've thought was sinus/allergy problems. I've been to the ENT twice now and even had allergy testing. The allergy tests all showed negative; which is a good thing. Seems I may have non-allergic Rhinitis and the doctor gave me a nose spray for such. Well, I don't want to jinx myself, but for the last week I've felt better than I have in months and months. So much so, that I actually made 20+ cards on Sunday and more last night. Mind you, I've CASED each one because I am not one to take too much time to create from scratch. That takes me WAY too long and I'm an immediate gratification kind of person. However, the bookmark in this post I did create to match the CASED card.

First Casualty of the Season!

Oh, gosh what a horrible night, or shall I say wee early morning I had. I was abruptly awaken at 2:00 a.m. to some unfamiliar strange noise. It caused one of my dogs to jump out of the bed. Of course, when I turned on the light and saw her standing on the floor I thought the noise I heard had been her and perhaps she'd fallen out of the bed. That didn't seem to be her problem as I was able to quickly coax her back into the bed. I left the light on hoping to hear the noise again so I could determine the cause. Then it did it again and my mind raced to several options. A bird caught in my gas logs in the bedroom, or a squirrel or a mouse? Maybe it was trying to get in my room or maybe it was stuck in the wall and fluttering all around inside. It was causing a lot of commotion that's for sure. Finally I grabbed the flash light under the night stand and shined it on the grate of the gas logs and I could see something. When I opened the grate there was the culprit; a mouse. It'd gotten stuck on the glue trap standing straight up and it was trying to pull itself along to safety. OMG!! What to do? I finally decided I needed something long enough to grab the whole trap; the tongs worked great. But my reaching for it caused the little rodent to place it's other two feet on the glue and there it was really stuck for good. So now I have it and am really not sure what to do with it. Hmmmm....all I can think of, at this hour, is to place it outside and see what the rest of the dark would bring.

Leaving for work this morning, I tried not to look where I'd placed it but couldn't resist. Now I feel horrible because there it is still trying to get free and I can't bring myself to put it out of it's misery. If Brian were in town he'd have taken care of it for me. As it stands, I don't ever want to use those glue traps again. I think they are a very cruel way to capture rodents. From now on I'm going to use some other more humane system.

Just A Note

I created these last night with the Just A Note stamp set from Stampin Up. It's only 1 stamp in the box and it's perfect for simple quick cards. And, I didn't even CASE this time. Card stock colors are Crumb Cake, Chocolate Chip, Early Espresso, Cherry Cobbler and Whisper White. I used Chocolate Chip Craft Ink and clear embossing powder. The ribbon is Chocolate Chip.

Isn't she beautiful. This is a picture of her taken for a photo shoot this summer. Her new owner has been a blesing for this little girl. She is very happy and very well adjusted. She even has another playmate. Her owner says they are so very happy together and cuddle often as well as play very well together.

A Tree For All Seasons (retired)

Sadly for some, this stamp set is retired from Stampin Up's collection. I truly like it a lot and refuse to let it go. After seeing samples on Splitcoast Stampers I just had to re-create this card with the set. No sentiment has been added so I'd say it can be used for various reasons. What you can't tell is that the Crushed Curry is actually layered on top of Bashful Blue. The scalloped paper is actually River Rock. Guess my scanning isn't as true to the real thing.

Beagle (Tink) has a new home!

I just wanted to take a little space to let everyone know that the little Beagle I found now has a permanent home. And, she also has an awesome little Jack Russel brother. Seems she will be an indoor girl and gets to walk fabulous trails each day as well. I could not be happier for her and I want to thank everyone so much for the effort in helping me find her a good home. My sister does know of another female beagle that hangs around the barn where my niece's horse resides that needs a home too. So I'll try to help her in finding her a home as well. Thank you again for your concern and help. I have an amazing circle of friends and some people I've never met as well.

When I came home last night this little girl was scampering across my drive way to the neighbors yard. So after I got my car in the garage I coaxed her in and closed the door. She was cold, hungry and tired. I got a nice wool blanket, towel and sheet and quickly made her a very nice place to rest her weary body. And, I gave her some of Bella & Rikka's food as well. She'd been in the rain all day and apparently had been hunting by the looks of her somewhat raw feet and scratched legs. Plus it seemed she hadn't eaten in a while from the looks of her ribs. Nonetheless, I tossed and turned all night wondering what to do the next day. I decided she'd stay in my garage to get the rest and nourishment she needed. I also put some Vaseline on her feet and legs to give her poor raw skin some relief. She did get to go out to do her business and was very happy to return right back to the bed made for her. When I got home tonight she was so happy to see me and seems more comfortable with her surroundings. She also seems very young as she was eager to play, plus she tried to get into a few things in the garage but she didn't damage them. Seems she just wants to play a bit. From that behavior and in looking at her eyes and teeth she is young. Another very nice thing about her is she absolutely shows no aggression in any way. Brian bought her some food of her own today and when I fed her I put my hand right in her bowl while she was eating and not one reaction from her; which is great. Plus he and I picked several ticks off of her and again she didn't even flinch. She is a very easy going and extremely sweet girl. Don't you know of anyone who would want to give this little girl the good home she deserves? I already have two little ones and just can't afford another one. It's that time of year again. Time to start thinking about your holiday cards and what you want to send. If you're like me, nothing but a handmade card will do; or in my case is accepted. I haven't purchased a store bought card since July 2007. Handmade cards are much more special and appreciated. Folks really look forward to receiving them. So I'm offering two Stamp a Stack sessions. One on November 29 at my studio in Aylett and one on November 30 at my office conference room in Richmond. Let me know by November 20 if you want in on this fun event. So gee, do you think I've made it clear enough I'm having a Studio Open House this Sunday, October 25? Actually, I placed an ad in my local paper which comes out today and I'm having a yard banner made as well. So I hope to get more traffic here and am posting some new cards and projects I've worked on as I noted in my ad I would do. And, I'm also providing a few pictures of cards from some of my other Stampin Up sisters. I'm in a Flood Swap and September was my month to be flooded. It was awesome coming home each day during the month to find several cards in my mail box. I received some very nice artwork and wanted to share. Oh, and what artwork I created was probably CASED as I'm very limited on my time as of late with regard to my own ideas. These 3 I did make.

It looks like a plate you may say! It is a plate! But not like any other I own. This plate has very special meaning to me and will forever be displayed at my house. The house I had built and closed on exactly 5 years ago on 10/6/04. My house was a true labor of love and somewhat bittersweet at that. Although the reason for the need to have a new home at the age of 41 was not where I envisioned I'd be, but as they say, there is a reason for everything and this holds true for me when I had my house built. Shortly after moving in I had a house warming and every person I held dear to my heart was there. Which made it even more special. But one of my dearest friends, Gloria, had this plate with her in it's raw form and had every person there that evening sign it and then she had it fired to permanently preserve all the good wishes and signatures. I look at it often and a smile always crosses my face when I do. I keep this plate very close to the ground on a shelf on the island in my kitchen. That way should it ever come off the shelf it doesn't have far to go and will land on a rug. Thereby hopefully preventing it from ever breaking. It is truly one of a kind and can never be exactly replaced nor can the event which brought it to my house ever be duplicated. Thank you all my dear friends for this truly cherished gift which keeps me grounded.

And, what a big day they had. Brian bought each of them a new blanket and a new toy. Of course pink for Bella and purple for Rikka. We then took them to Tuesday Morning and pushed them in their stroller for a bit and then on to Stony Point Fashion Park. OMG, did they have a good time there. And, of course, they are so adorable and irresistible (I'm biased) that many folks had to stop and pet them and talk to them. I fixed them some chicken to go in their food which was such a treat for them. Here are some pictures of them at the fashion park. Although, I must say their day didn't start off too well. Bella got sick before she even got out of bed and Rikka had to go to the vets first thing because something bit her on her face and it was red and swollen. She's okay but on antibiotics for a week. All in all it was a very good day and they were "dog" tired on the way home. :d They went to sleep immediately when we put them in the crate for the drive home.

Big Shot Bites the Dust!

Well, actually only one teeny, tiny gear bit the dust. However, that piece or any other piece of the Big Shot cannot be ordered seperately. So, I had to order a whole new Big Shot. It's slowed up my grandiose plans to really crank out some great cards this week. You know, being all pumped up and everything since coming back from Convention in Utah. Anywho....here is a picture of my poor dismantled Big Shot! Seems I have really gotten my money's worth out of it, or Brian's money. He gave it to me for my birthday in 07.

To Stampin Up's Stamper's Showcase on June 16 and 18 that is. I submitted these two cards to Stampin Up for the Artisan Award Contest; and since I didn't win and they posted them, it's safe for me to post as well. If I see more of my entries I'll share. I made a whole bunch of cards this week and will post those soon too. I'm very pleased with my creations of late. And, even one I created last night which I can't share because those will go with me to the SU Convention this year. It's just next month; gosh Summer is whizzing by isn't it?

Well, or how about a masculine themed card. I just figured the title would certainly grab attention. Haha! This is the father's day card I made to give to Brian on behalf of Bella and Rikka! They adore him and he's awesome with them. This card was cased from one that Ming had created. Love the little piece of wood like paper; and now Stampin Up offers sheets of it as well. The little hammer brad came from a store Ming visited on her trip to Seattle recently.

I know it's been quite some time since I've posted, but I've got so much going on I just haven't been motivated I guess you could say to post. I'm dealing with a degenerative disc pushing on my sciatic nerve and have been in pain for quite some time. I finally broke down last week and saw the chiropractor every day and am scheduled for 3 days this week and probably the same every week for a while. It's prohibited my activities for sure and it's getting a little old. But this too shall pass; hopefully without needing surgery. Anyway, here are a few pictures of cards that were displayed at my last down line meeting. I have made a few of my own, but I may be taking them to convention for swaps and can't post them. Bummer.....but I'm getting excited about receiving the new SU Idea Book & Catalog and the new in colors. I plan to have an Open House at my studio in August so that should be fun. I think I may like the new colors better than the ones they introduced last year; all except for the Pink Pirouette though. My absolute favorite.

You'd think I switched from posting cards to just posting pictures of family, friends and around the house. Truth be told, I haven't made a whole lot since submitting my entries to SU for the Artisan Award Contest. Now it seems that yard and house work have consumed much of my time. And, now I have a Piriformis Muscle/Sciatica Nerve issue which is prohibiting me from doing much at all. Anyway, these three were mostly cased. But still, maybe you haven't seen them before.

Yet, this is my pool on opening day and I was mortified. I have never had my pool to look like this. It took me over a week to finally get it cleared up and I still have some residue of that green gunk on the bottom filters. I need to find a kid who can go down there and brush it off for me. :D After much money and a few weeks later it's looking crystal clear. I'll have to post the after picture soon. And, I've learned that the shock you can buy from Wal-Mart has more stabilizer than anything and therefore was doing nothing but helping my pool maintain the cloudiness. I added 12lbs of shock and it didn't do much. Pla Mor Pools of Mechanicsville are the bomb and helped me get my pool looking amazing.

My Niece, Nephew & Younger Sister!

Saturday I went to watch my niece for her weekly horse back riding lesson. And, I took some pictures since it was a good day weather wise for such. Albeit a bit windy and chilly. After her lesson my sister along with her two and two of their friends and Brian and I went to Ashland for dinner. It was a very nice time with them. We don't get to gather too often since Tyler is 15 and seems to just want to hang with his peeps all the time. But he's a good child and does well in school, so nothing wrong with that. So here are a few pics of our time together. They are growing up so fast it seems. I remember when Tyler was born (12/1)@ 10lbs 12.5 ounces; he was beautiful and on Christmas Day he looked like he was 3 months old.

My Birthday Celebration!

The 24th was my 46th birthday and what a great day I had. First of all there was a Ukrops cake on my desk from a colleague who is a very good friend as well. That was such a treat. Later about 13 of my girlfriends met me at Cafe Caturra for a lunch celebration and it was just the best. Here is a picture of Katie and me while there. I love her new hair style and color. And, OMG, Brian had an amazing basket of fruit delivered to my office before I left to meet my friends and I took it with me. It was so impressive and the fruit was awesome. I've posted a picture of it here. I also received many, many well wishes from my friends via FaceBook which was way cool. I can't thank everyone enough for making my day spectacular. Of course, I'm still celebrating as Ming has arranged for my massage therapist to come to my house Sunday for an hour massage. And, Ming's coming over for one as well. Then we plan to have some champagne and sit in the hot tub for a while. But we have to do some stamping as well. I'm entering the SU Artisan Award Contest, so that's why I've been MIA lately.

It's loaded and I know already I want Forest Friends! Anway, here is a card I just had to make immediately upon reviewing the magazine. Of course it's CASED because I liked it so much.

Brian's Valentine Card

So this is the card I gave Brian for Valentine's Day. Yep, it's cased...sort of. I did actually take various stamps from my SU sets to make the heart though. And, it actually does look like one I made last year. I liked it a lot and so did he. He gave me a beautiful bouquet of flowers that he picked up from the local florist, which is a nice contribution to the local community. Of course, the card said Happy Anti-Valentine's Day cause he knows I'm just not that into the celebration that comes along with it. But he did take me to the seafood restaurant Friday night, which IMO, was better than going out Saturday night with every other human from the community. Not that I don't like my community folks, just not so many at one time is all I'm saying. He also gave me the coolest little Valentine's Day present; which I'll post a picture of tomorrow. It's a Wonder Woman metal bracelet. Too cool since I've said for years my goal is to be Wonder Woman and sometimes I feel like I am. Now I'll be even more invincible since I have the bracelet which for sure makes me that much closer to being Wonder Woman right?

When I first saw this stamp set from Stampin Up I just knew I had to have it. I really don't know why though as I'm just not as creative with stamps like this as I am with simpler ones. However, here is my first attempt at making a card with it and without casing. I think I really will need to find some to case as this just doesn't do much for me. But it lends some interest to me, so here it is.

CD Case Project!

Even though I have a huge amount of blank paper CD Cases they just aren't quite like the one I've made here. I actually think I like the one I made better. In this post you'll see the front side (decorated) and the back side of the CD Case (slightly decorated) as well as the back opened. I am thinking about doing this at Ming's workshop this month. So easy and yet so nice, especially for picture card CD's you may share.

Bizzy Times!

It's probably like that for most of you as well, incredibly bizzy! I know how to spell, I just like my version of the word better. Anyway, on the 17th I went to Bob and Terry's for some great food and good time with them and other friends; like I said before one of my most favorite things to do. Sunday, the 18th Brian and I went to Bobbi & Loren's wedding at the Boars Head Inn in Charlottesville, VA. So very, very nice. I'll share pictures soon of that. The 24th I performed a wedding ceremony for some friends, which was very nice too. And, also on the 24th Brian had his annual Winter Chill Out Party at Tobacco Company in Richmond, so I went to that. I've posted a picture of us while there. Sunday, I had the first meeting for the stamp club group; which was way fun. We're very excited about it! I've posted a picture from that too. And, later Sunday friends came over for dinner and some chatting and relaxing in the hot tub. This Saturday I have a downline meeting; which I look so forward to and am helping Terry clear some things from her office. So as you can see it's been an incredibly bizzy month so far and that doesn't even count going to work, yoga and the gym or lovin on the puppy girls. But I truly do love having lots of things to do and wonderful friends to share good times with.

I'm Back!!

I'm back from my trip to Bali. What a great experience it was. I enjoyed it and got some great pictures which I'll post in a SmileBox soon. I haven't had an opportunity to make anything card wise and hope to get to do that this week. In the meantime, I thought I'd share what Bella and Rikka did with one of the Christmas presents I gave to them. This is the 2nd bed they've owned and the 2nd one they've torn to shreds. They must get truly bored when left alone too long. I was in Bali and Brian ran some errands the day they did this. Glad it was on sale at PetSmart when I got it.

Some of my friends have said they check out my blog to see what I'm up to. Well, I haven't done too much posting specifically about that sort of thing. So I thought I'd provide a little update.

Let' see.....Thanksgiving was so nice. I made an incredible spaghetti sauce (thanks to Ray) and we had dessert and a movie (Wall-E) at Ming and Ray's. Plus we got to see her mom, dad, grandma, sister and brother-in-law which was very nice. We stopped by Eugene and Beth's after that to see their new home; which is way cool. That truly was a nice visit as well. I also got a workout in at the gym which was only occupied by one other person. Had the whole place mostly to myself.

On Friday, 12/5 a whole bunch of us got together for Jill's birthday and went to River's Edge Bistro, which was very festive. Ming and I spent the night with Jill and Kelley came over for some girl talk as well. Saturday I had Madelyn and Barbara up for my last Holiday Stamp A Stack and that was also so very nice. I put up the tree and the candles in the windows. Brian and I put the wreath on my turret which is beautiful. Since it was so warm here last night, (60 plus) I put the lit garland around my door. So all that is done.

As usual I have Yoga on Thursday nights and I'm trying to fit in some visits to the gym too.

Bella and Rikka still haven't mastered the puppy door Brian installed. Actually, Bella was traumatized by it Monday night when we made her go through it. She still seems to be off kilter and I'm really not sure why. Don't get me wrong, she's eating, drinking, piddle and pooing as well as playing, but she seems to want more attention than normal. Hmmm..wonder if she can sense it's about time for me to go away for a week or more. Anyway, they are doing well.

This weekend I plan to go to Walkerton to buy some of the Brunswick Stew that will be on sale at the Fire Department and hopefully get to see Ming, Emily and Ray while there. Saturday evening I plan to go to Terry and Bobs for some great fellowship at the barn. One of my most favorite things to do actually. I'll be making cards to send out for Christmas this weekend too; yes I'm late.

Brian flies out very early Friday morning for Texas. He bought a vehicle from there and is driving it back. I get my hair cut tomorrow; thank goodness. Monday the puppies go to the groomers. And, next week is my last week at work until January 5th. So I've got two payrolls to do, bonuses and tax preparations to complete. My company Christmas party is at The Hotel Jefferson next Friday. I leave for Bali on the 23rd. I can hardly believe it. Plus, I'm really pumped about all the new Stampin Up things in the very near future. I've been working on Valentine's Day cards actually and am looking forward to the stamp club that I'm also starting in January.

Oh, and way cool news. Brian and I are going to the Adirondacks in February for his birthday for a weekend of snowmobiling. Even though I hate cold weather, this should be fun. Check it out; it's in Old Forge, NY. http://www.oldforgeny.com/

I just have to share with you the newest addition to the "river clan" who was born in August. Scott and Elizabeth (I performed their marriage ceremony-my first) were blessed with a beautiful little girl and they named her Avery. I'm sort of honored as I offered up the name to them in March when we were at Ming and Ray's for dinner one evening and they liked it. Actually, another friend of mine named his daughter the same but about almost 4 years ago. So this little Avery has a name sake. Maybe one day they'll meet. The first little Avery is adorable too.

Gosh, I feel bad I haven't posted in over a week, but there has just not been enough time. Too much to do with only 3 weeks left of the year for me to do them in. That's because the first of the third week of December is going to be spent mostly on my getting ready to go to Bali, Indonesia on the 23rd. I can hardly believe it's approaching. Anyway, I haven't made too many new cards, so I'll continue to share with you ones I took pictures of from Regional.

I just had to show off Brian's handy work. He did such an incredible job at building Bella & Rikka's deck and installing their puppy door. Now, I just have to train them to use it. And, even though my whole back yard is securely fenced, I still need to fence in their area and put a pergola of some type over it as well. I don't want them venturing out into the yard or near the pool (currently covered) while I'm not home. And, I don't want to chance anything flying or crawling in there. It really is an awesome piece of work.

This is the SWAP I took to the Virginia Beach Regional this past weekend. It really was nice to attend this event as it re-energized me and I'm so pumped about all the new things we learned. Just so little time it seems to share it all; but I eventually will. For those demonstrators who can't attend Convention I strongly encourage you to go to the closest regional . You really do learn a lot and come away with a lot of ideas. And, OMG, it was so exciting that Shelli Gardner was there as well. What a neat surprise. Snow Swirled (combined here with Season of Joy) has got to be one of my newest favorite SU sets with regard to theme; Christmas. The set is so versatile and I'm even using it for my swaps to take to the SU VA. Beach Regional this Saturday. I'm so looking forward to that. I have since modified this card a bit though. I did not stamp on the part underneath the squares, I just haven't had a chance to take a picture of the new card. And, I'll post the Swap card soon.

Once again I used punches to create this cute candy treat pack. The SU Top Note BigZ Die from Sizzix was used for his head and circle punches for the eyes and the small oval punch for his nose. Don't you just love the Halloween energy that abounds! Or, could that be effects from the candy corn? Haha!

And, today is my friend Cory's birthday. He and his wife, Amber, are temporarily living in Spain, so it's a bummer we won't get to celebrate with them this year as we've done in the past. Hopefully they will be back soon though.

Not yet anyway. I was especially looking forward to a little cold weather as I now have a hot tub, but since I've had a head cold for almost a week now I've really not been in the mood to get in it. Nor am I sure it's the best thing when one has a cold. However, that has not dampened my holiday card making mood as most of the card creators I see are doing as well. I love this set and just got it recently. The colors are not traditional, but I still like it a lot.

First let me say when I first typed the title to today's post it converted it to Hindi! OMG, it was too funny. I panicked and realized I changed something in error last week and quickly corrected it. Whew!!

Anyway, Ming's Birthday was Sunday and this is the card I made for her. I CASED it from one I'd seen on the SU Demonstrator site; I absolutely love the Regal Rose color. This has got to be one of my all time favorite layouts and color schemes.

On Saturday, Denisha, her son (Jacob), and Ming and Emily came over to the house/studio so the children could play in my yard and the adults could make cards and just have a nice time creating. Which we did! It was so nice and watching Emily and Jacob play was quite entertaining as well. I look forward to doing that again. Oh, and my sister's birthday was Saturday. And, Ming's husband's birthday is tomorrow along with three of my other friends. January of those years certainly was a busy month. I've got quite a few more friends who have a birthday this month as well.

I've gone monogram mad this week in case you've wondered where I've been and what I've been doing craft wise. I'm so loving my JustRite Stampers and I think you would too if you don't have them already. But I must say I like the do-it-yourself ones they offer and not the one that's in the tubular like canister. Just my preference. Anyway, I have two of the do-it-yourself style and one of the canister style. I plan to order more DIY. Easy peasy and fun. I've got a stamp class Monday night and since I've only got 4 attending this time, I'm going to offer these in class. It should be fun.

Bella and Rikka truly do love their little Papsan's and when I'm in my studio they could not be happier than to be on them but close to me. But what makes them even happier is to have their calf hooves with them in their papasans, close to their mommy. A lot of times they try to squeeze into one and cuddle with each other. I guess it's a fairly accurate statement to say I'm so loving the Pink Pirouette more than any other color that SU has. I think it's just yummy. This card was made using the Pocket Silhouettes Stamp Set, which I'm also loving big time. Oh, and the Sweet Always Designer Paper is beautiful too.

CD Mailer-Mini Album!

I first saw one of these albums at Jean's Stamp Room recently and just loved the idea of it. One of my SU Sister Demonstrators there was selling some of the blank CD mailers and I bought about 30 of them. Jean provided me instructions and I took pictures of the one on display there. Well, I really didn't follow the directions too much because once you have the dimensions of the paper it's pretty easy to figure out the rest. Plus, if you know me I always modify. It took me two hours to get one made. However, I'm going to offer this in my September Stamp Class, which won't take nearly as long for my participants as I'll have everything already cut. I think these make wonderful mini-scrapbooks and I plan to add lots of pictures and journaling. You should see the red one I did too!

Well, Elizabeth and Scott's new bundle of joy arrived last week and although, I haven't seen her personally yet, I hear she's adorable. And, she weighed just a little over 9 pounds; you ought to see her cheeks! A little history for those who don't know who Elizabeth and Scott are. I met them through Ming and Ray and absolutely loved them right away. So much in fact that in 05 I performed their marriage ceremony on the banks of the Mattaponi River at Ming and Ray's house. Yes, I'm a marriage commissioner for the State of Virginia. And, I actually became one just so I could perform their ceremony. As it turns out, it's very nice to be able to do that for folks who are very dear to me and I had the privilege of performing a ceremony about two years ago for my best friend's daughter. Married them right in the living room of my home. It was very special. Anyway, this is a card I made with Elizabeth and Scott in mind.

I can't believe my babies are three today! To celebrate I'm going to make sure I take as many pictures as possible, which I started first thing this morning. They are going to have chicken and rice for dinner and I'm going to stop by PetSmart for some treats and a few new toys for them before I head home. Brian has been out of town all week and is coming back today and spend the day with them. They will just love that I know. We'll sing them happy birthday too. So have I mentioned yet that I just had the most incredible time at convention this year? And, I really think I'd like to go back next year as well. But I've got to say it was more about the friendships I made while there and how much closer I got with my local circle of SU Sisters especially my roommates. We got along so well and never once had an issue of any sort. We meshed perfectly and we vowed it would be just us three or 4 if Jenn goes next year to share a room. I immediately missed Stacey and Cynthia when it was all over and was so glad I got to see Stacey this week at our local demo meeting. I think Cynthia is in Canada for two weeks, but I hope to catch up with her soon too. And, we're so looking forward to going together to the Regional in November at Virginia Beach. What an incredible group of women. I am honored to be in the circle with them. I'm in the middle and Stacey is to my right which means Cynthia is the one on my left. I swear I'll do a smilebox this weekend to post of more convention pictures. It was so incredible.

Emily was so excited to show me how she could swim in my pool "all by myself" and she did too. I was amazed at how she just wanted to get right in and dog paddle around. She is growing up! When Ming enrolls her in swimming lessons next year I can just see her wanting to be even more independent. She'll graduate to arm floats and then she'll eventually not need them. But she'll still be our little Emmie!

Eggplant Fritters!

So I tried my hand at Eggplant Fritters for the first time a few weeks ago and I think I did pretty good. Look how pretty they turned out. And, fresh eggplant from Bob and Terry's garden. That and some of their tomatoes was such a treat. I put the skinned eggplant in my food processor and processed it to a fine chop, then added milk, flour, baking powder, egg and a little salt. You have to make it to a pancake batter consistency in order for it to work well. Oh, and if you use self-rising flour you don't need the baking powder, but I didn't have any of the SRF so I used the BP. I was very pleased with my first attempt. I so badly wanted to add sugar to it because I felt like I was making pancakes, but I refrained. Haha!

This set remained in the Fall/Winter 08 Stampin Up Catalog and for good reason. It's beautiful and versatile. I did not make this card, but took a picture of it from last fall's downline meeting. I'd post some new ones from convention but I can't put my hands on my camera cable. I know I can download using my camera card, but the last time I did that I had to reformat the card. Meaning I'd lose everything on it and I'm not going to chance that until I can get all of them burnt on a disc. Hopefully tomorrow I'll find the cable.

This is the other SWAP I took to Convention. But I only made 25 of these. And, I'm sorry I didn't make more because so many folks really seemed to like this one a lot. Next year if I make another one that falls in the category as this one I'll make more. Listen to me, seems like I'm thinking about going to convention next year. Well, only if it's not on Jess' birthday (7/31) because I don't want to miss her 13th birthday. And, according to the Salt Lake Convention Center the convention next year is on their calendar for August 5. So I'll have to see if they stick with that. I already tried to reserve some rooms at some of the hotels closer and they are already booked. Hmmm....not sure what that is about.

1 Day Left Before Departure!

I cannot believe that tomorrow I will leave for Salt Lake City and be attending Stampin Up's 20th Year Anniversary Convention. For the most part I'm ready. Of course, I have done absolutely no packing. Hopefully since I'm only planning on taking a carry on, it won't take me long. Anyway, I will post pictures of what SWAPS I decided to take tomorrow and the next day. I'm doubtful I'll get to download pictures of cards from convention while I'm there, but I'll try.

Anywho, I was admiring my kitchen yesterday, like I do everyday, and thought it was time to take some updated pictures. Ask Katie, I am so enamored with my stove it's beyond belief. It's an original 1940's Okeefe & Merritt that I found on the internet. It was in Burbank, California and I had shipped to Virginia while I was having my house built. Of course, my luck, it was being shipped right in the middle of a hurricane that had landed in Atlanta (where my stove had to go through), but it made it without harm. It's totally refurbished and came with a one year warranty. And, it cooks like a dream. Plus, to me, it's just absolutely beautiful. And, what a conversation piece

6 Days till Convention!

Wow, where did the time go? And, with that means I'm scrambling to get everything done in time. I did manage to get 15 full card swaps done last night for convention. The card above is what I decided to make for that. These are to be traded with my circle of sister demonstrators in my senior downline's group at dinner Wednesday night in Salt Lake City. I guess I'd be more pumped, but with having so much to do and having Bella's recovery on my mind, it's not hit me too much yet. It probably will when I'm actually at the airport next week.

BTW, I love the SU new Scallop Punch which I used to make these cards. And, their Brushed Gold Card Stock is just fabulous. I wish they had more pieces in a pack though. 10 is just not enough. Maybe I'll talk to Shelli about this at Convention; Haha! Seriously though, something needs to be done about SU's shipping; way too slow.

The Tummy Difference

Bella is making such great progress and is starting to feel herself. TMI, but she finally went poo last night. Yay!! A big step given what she's endured. She's gotten a lot friskier too and wants to play with her sister, which she's done but slightly. No running or stairs for her for a while. But I've got to say her incision is looking great and I hope it heals so that it can hardly be seen once her tummy fur grows back. I thought I'd post a side-by-side of Rikka and Bella so you can get an idea of her incision. It's huge IMO.

And, it seems that Rikka can sense Bella's mood and is paying a little more attention to her too. She seemed a little standoffish at first, but is coming around. She wants her to play too.

Rikka's Friday Night Adventure!

What do you do with a Mini-Schnauzer who's missing her litter mate? You take her out Friday night to Lowe's! And, she loved it!! She just sits straight up and notices everything. It was a big night for her as Brian took her to visit Bella at the hospital and then on to McDonald's and Lowe's. Of course, she can't go into McDonald's though. But, the best news is that Bella came home Saturday and is doing so much better. Nothing like home for good healing. She napped a whole lot and ate better than she had in a week. You would too if you were eating chicken and rice. The doctor has restricted her activity for a month. So, the house was post-0p prepared before Brian and I left to get her. No jumping up on anything and absolutely no stairs or playing with her sister; which Rikka doesn't understand. I'm sleeping with the two of them in the guest bedroom on the mattress which now rests on the floor. Looks like I'm not having too many guests over for a while. Oh, well.....whatever it takes to get her 100% healthy. Oh, and Brian and I still can't figure out the item she swallowed.

Also, I think I'll be able to go to the SU Convention next week, so I did get to work on swaps yesterday while the two little ones slept on the comforter in the studio on the floor. They were so good. Brian fixed a wonderful dinner on the grill. And, later last night we three sat on the patio swing while Brian swam in the pool. All-in-all it was a good weekend! Hope it was for you too. And, it will be an even better week if the pet insurance I have will pay for the $3K+ vet bill I incurred. Still worth it if they don't though.

Bella's progress

I went to see little Bella today and she looked so pitiful in the big megaphone collar. She refuses to eat for the staff, but she ate for her mommy. Not a lot, but about 1/2 of what they had for her in dry food. She didn't want their water and I think it's because she'd used to getting bottled water at home, so Brian will bring her some tonight when he brings Rikka to visit her. And, I'll try to feed her again at the 8:00 p.m. visiting hour. Hopefully she'll do even better. If she does she'll get to come home tomorrow. Yay! Rikka is missing her big time and it's starting to show. Oh, and as far as the item they removed from her, I haven't been able to determine that yet. I didn't have my glasses on so I couldn't focus in on it too well. But it does remind me of an upholstery button, yet I don't have any of those in the house or studio, so I need to examine it closer when I have my glasses on. All the toys were checked last night and nothing seems to be missing, so I'm on a mission to find out what this item is and hopefully prevent it from happening again.

Well, my little Bella had to have surgery today. They were 90% certain she had a blockage in her intestines and they found that to be true. Two little objects (unknown at this time) were in there. I will have to look at them to see if I recognize what they are. Anyway, they only had to make a small incision in her intestines and the items they found were small and round so no damage was done from them. They do not want her to have visitors tonight because they think it will excite her too much and she needs her rest. I was hopeful to see her again today, but it's best for her. They said that maybe she can come home Saturday. I will be so glad to have her back home! What a whirlwind of a week this has been. Maybe I'll get some sleep tonight since I think the worst is over.

Princess Bella Update

So my little Bella took a turn for the worse last night and I had to take her to the Virginia Referral and Critical Care (VRCC) facility and I'm so glad I did. Seems she has Pancreatitis and had to stay all night and possibly again tonight. Before I took her she just could not get comfortable, threw up a few times last night, refused to eat or drink and started whimpering when she exhaled. I just knew she was in pain and had to get her some relief. Thank goodness for the VRCC. What an incredible group of people and their facilities are state of the art. They can perform tests and have the results quickly all in house. They are incredibly expensive, but it's so worth it. If you're in Virginia and ever find yourself in need of emergency care for your pet, I would highly recommend VRCC. They said Bella had a good night and seems to be getting better. And, of course Rikka is now figuring out something isn't quite right. Brian and I plan to visit Bella tonight and take Rikka to see her too. Hopefully this will cheer both of them up.

So, I was on a boating event all weekend which is one reason I haven't posted anything. But also, my Princess Bella has been sick. And, she has only gotten worse and had to be taken to the vets yesterday where she was given an IV of fluids and potassium. She's been vomitting and as of yesterday evening she does not want to eat. Today she didn't want any water or food and I took her back to the vets where they are watching her and going to give her more fluids. They think she's got an infection of some sort and she's on antibiotics as well as another medicine to reduce the acid in her stomach. But they haven't had enough time to work to make her significantly better. Hopefully when I pick her up this evening she'll be better. So all I can seem to do is hold her when I am home; which she just loves. And, of course Rikka gets to snuggle too. Maybe tonight I'll bring her to my studio and make at least one card, but her health comes first. Please keep her in your thoughts and prayers. She's like a (human) child to me as I don't have any of those.

I have no idea how I even got a new card made, but I did. Between all the around-the-house work I have to do, taking care of Bella and Rikka (which I love) exercise, Convention Swaps, hanging with friends, being a supportive friend to those who are going through some trying things, and of course my paying job, it's amazing. And, you can tell because it's not too terribly good as far as my lining up and centering. But my Yoga instructor asked me last week if I could make a get well card by tonight's class, so here it is. Similar to one I've done before but I like these colors alot. Too bad the River Rock is going to be retired. Better get more before that happens. Oh, and I finally booked my flight to Utah for the end of this month's SU Convention. Now I just have to make my 100 plus swaps and non-card item too. I wish I could post the pictures of them for you, but it will have to wait until convention.

On Saturday evening a handful of my former colleagues from Crestar Bank (now SunTrust Bank) (from when we first started working together in the 80's) decided to have a small get together to catch up with each other. And, what a wonderful evening it was. We laughed so much and just had the best time. It's so nice that we've all remained close. Everyone is well and given what we've all endured over the years that is very heartwarming. I know without a doubt we'll always keep in touch. So this card is the first one I made for my friend Tami's birthday. But then opted to make one that coordinated with the Vera Bradley purse I bought her. This one doesn't do all that much for me. Maybe if the colors were different it would. Oh, and I also had put some little leaves around the flower but then took those off. Hmmm....guess I really need to work on this one a bit more hunh?

Well, convention is really not all that far away when you have to consider I need to make at least 100 swaps and I have no clue what to make. I toyed with using this for a swap, but am not sure. I really don't like the sentiment and would rather have Happy Halloween instead and in that size. I did make another card last night that I may want to use, but it would be a whole card and not just a front due to how it's made. Although, I could potentially alter it so it's just a front.

About 2 years ago I painted French Phrases on my bedroom wall. And, I love it. I am about to change the Lavender though and so the words will have to be painted over. But I like them so much I'd venture to say I'll do it again. And, I used a simple alphabet stencil, upper and lower case, and did these. But don't you know SU has released a brief about their new Decor Elements line. So I had to email them to see if they'd be doing them in French as well. Haven't heard from them yet. I sent a picture of my wall as well.

Tami's Birthday Card!

Yesterday was my dearest, dearest friend (since 5th grade) Tami's birthday and this is the card I made for her. It wasn't the first one I made for her though. After I bought her present, a Vera Bradley handbag, I decided her card had to match the colors in the handbag. So that's how I came up with this card. Oh, but I did CASE the layout from the birthday card Ming gave to me this year. Anyway, I hope Tami had a fabulous birthday yesterday. I ran by her house last night and gave her the present and I'd say she looks incredible for our ages! We're the same age but I've got her by not quite 3 months. And, I just know on my next milestone birthday I'll hear about it! :D

Christmas in June!

I've gotten somewhat bored in the category of cards I'd been making lately. Not that I don't enjoy it. I just wanted a definite change, so I made a Christmas Card the other night. I started off with the idea that I'd just do a tag, but it needed something more. So I put it on SU Basic Gray CS, and stamped the stars with Silver ink. Everything is SU. Kind of a weird combination I know, but I think I like it.

I started my blog around the middle of September 2007 and as of yesterday, June 16 I've had 10,000 hits. Pretty cool IMO. Thanks to everyone for being interested in my little life!
